Help Smooth and Plump Skin With Juvéderm®
Elizabeth A. Kinsley, MD offers a range of non-invasive cosmetic procedures to help patients meet their aesthetic goals without the downtime associated with surgery. Juvéderm® is a hyaluronic acid injectable gel formulated to help smooth and hydrate the skin while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Juvéderm® has become one of the most common cosmetic procedures in the United States since the Food and Drug Administration approved it in 2006.
How Does Juvéderm® Work?
The body naturally produces hyaluronic acid, which stimulates collagen production. These substances deplete as we age, which causes the skin to lose elasticity and increases the appearance of deep creases, sunken cheeks, and thinning lips. Juvéderm® contains modified hyaluronic acid to help restore skin volume for a youthful yet natural look and can be injected in the lips, cheeks, and other areas of the face.
Dr. Kinsley provides Juvéderm® injections on an outpatient basis under topical and local anesthesia. The procedure typically takes just 15 minutes. Step in on your lunch break or even after a workout so that you can look your best without interrupting your busy schedule.
Who Is a Candidate for Juvéderm®?
Adults over 21 years old who want to help minimize age-related volume loss in their cheeks, lips, or other parts of their faces are good candidates for Juvéderm®. They should also have realistic, healthy expectations about their treatment results. Dr. Kinsley will schedule a thorough consultation to make sure Juvéderm® is safe and appropriate for you. You may need to discontinue certain over-the-counter medications or supplements, including St. John’s Wort, ibuprofen, and aspirin, before treatment.
What Should Patients Expect During Recovery?
Typically, little to no downtime is needed after Juvéderm® injections. Some patients may develop mild discomfort, swelling, bruising, itching, or tenderness at the injection site, but these side effects usually resolve within a few hours. Refrain from drinking alcohol, extensive sun exposure, or strenuous exercise at least 24 hours after treatment. In most cases, the results of hyaluronic acid fillers are noticeable right away and can last between eight and 12 months.
