When Is the Best Time to Get Plastic Surgery?
Deciding whether to get plastic surgery is a very personal process. But once you’ve decided to make a change, it’s time to decide what time of year to have your procedure. Here are some considerations for each season.
Plastic surgery crosses many people’s minds during the springtime, largely because summer is approaching. Consider whether you’ll have enough downtime before summer to fully recover from more intensive procedures such as a full tummy tuck or breast augmentation. While these procedures may be fine in March and April, the end of May marks the beginning of summer for many of us. Non-invasive procedures with minimal aftercare, such as CoolSculpting® or facial rejuvenation, may be better once May approaches.
Many find summer isn’t the ideal time for major surgeries since light or revealing clothes can make it hard to keep the recovery process under wraps. While summer may be a good recovery season for students or teachers who have more downtime, others may not want to sacrifice beach or vacation time by factoring in weeks of recovery.
As temperatures cool (if we’re lucky here in the South) in October and November and it’s time for “sweater weather,” many procedures like liposuctions and tummy tucks become more popular to undergo. Layers and compression garments are often recommended for post-surgical recovery, making this an optimal time to bundle up in a sweater and focus on recovery.
While early winter is unpopular for procedures due to Christmas and New Years, mid-January to late February is a good fit if you’re looking for a private, restful recovery. Many patients are also able to use their winter bonuses and paid time off to make this a prime recovery time. However, if you do catch the winter cold or flu, reschedule your appointment until you’re in better health.
